Level 5 Class - 60mins
At this stage students are practicing more complex rules of phonics. Phonics is the reading method where students learn the associated sounds with letters to make it easier to read. Also, we follow a curriculum of 10 units covering basic English language points and vocabulary. At this stage we are focused on output and expression of opinion as well as input. The students' ability to not only ask and answer questions, but add opinion is key. We use various vocabulary cards, toys, and realia to interact with the language and practice together. We are expanding our vocabulary base and using more complex language points. Skits, interviews, and presentations are used to facilitate learning. At this level we are reviewing some key topics; The different perspectives (I, You, He, She, We, They), verb conjugation, and we are also introducing the use of comparatives and superlatives to describe and rank what we see around us. This allows the students to express their personal opinions about their world.
-It is important that students get as much exposure to English outside of class so there is assigned homework for the students to not only review what they just learned in class, but preview the material they will be using before coming in. Our philosophy is that students should practice as much as possible outside of class and use the valuable class time with their native teacher to actually use the language.
